Summer Exhibition Poster

Two poster designs that I made today for our summer exhibition, I really like the top one as is my favourite design, but I like how playful the second one is.

Brickyard Poster - Mad Manners Draft 1

A poster in development for the band Bad Manners. I wanted to try something a little different with the placement of the image this time, and by placing it upside down is appropriate for the band's ska style, and it draws the viewer in. I would like to hear peoples opinions on it before I send it off, I'm unsure about the placement of 'With Supporting Acts The User Friendly.'

Website Tweaking

Last week I decided to tweak my website by editing the captions, and by finally coding the triangles into the bottom corner of my website! The triangles are fixed to the bottom corner, and it's placement moves with the size of the window! Try it out here!

Brickyard - Quireboys

I forgot to upload this poster, and the event has already been on, but here is my design for the Quireboys event at The Brickyard that was on the 25th November.

Faux New Year Poster

A rather rushed poster, which resulted in me designing with an xmas theme rather than new years theme, which set me back about an hour. However, I am very pleased with the outcome, I especially like the trees and the shading on the moon.

Power Nap Poster

I was given a completely free reign for this poster for the production 'Power Nap' which has a super hero theme. Seizing the opportunity, I decided to geek it up and design a poster with the comic book-esque panels, and went on a photo shoot with the actors.

Everything went well until it went for print, where the performing artists decided to ridicule me and slap a shitty comic book filter over the top of the poster and print it on pink sugar paper. Needless to say I was furious, but in the end it was all sorted out and they printed out decent quality posters.

Grillust (our course blog) commented on the issue in a rather humorous fashion: click here!

Self Promotion Stationery

My own stationary, consisting so far of a business card, letterhead and compliment slip. I will design a mailer/envelope soon in the similar style, and I hope to incorporate the triangular pattern onto my website at some point. I may change my business card too, I want something a little more memorable and eye catching.

Experimental Newspaper Spreads

After having my work scrutinised by tutors as always being 'Safe' I finally snapped and have designed something experimental for a change, and to my own surprise, I actually quite liked making it! More to come soon!

Ashdown High Poster

This is the poster for Ruth Stapleton's original production on the 25th October, in Stanwix Studio Theatre, I was asked to design it simple, yet eye catching, which I' think I've achieved pretty well!

Transition Monograph

I was asked to create an A5 booklet with cover, based on the word 'Transition.' I decided to primarilly use photography and patterns instead of typography for a change, to give the impression of transition through the spreads.

Birthday Card - Dad 2011

My Dad loves cricket, and also plays in a local team, so I thought this would be ideal for him! I'm still not amazing at illustration but I feel I'm improving! I especially like how the sweater pattern stays vertical rather than flowing with the creases.

Slab Serif Typeface W.I.P.

I realised that my previous typeface lacked a little personality and that there are thousands of typefaces very similar to it, so I've given that one a break for a while to think what I can add to make it less similar to others.

I've decided to take a shot at designing this slab serif which has more personality in it. The typeface is still in development, but so far, what do you guys reckon? Anything awful stick out?

It also needs a name, was thinking something along the lines of Versity, as the type has a very American University style feel to it. Other ones I've thought of are Segment or Regement?

Tilt-Shift Photography

I thought I would take a crack at using the Tilt-Shift technique with one of my photos, and it's turned out pretty well I think! It's impressive that making a lot of the photo out of focus really does make things look like models/toys!

Brickyard Poster - Rubakai

I have been given complete freedom with this poster, so I decided to use my own photo. I like the layout, but I can't help but feel that something is missing, maybe needs a little colour. The first poster is the original one, the second with red circles (which seem a little too overbearing) and the final contains subtle blue lines which is my personal favorite.

I haven't kerned the letters yet, but was wondering if there was anything major that I should change that you guys can spot?

[EDIT] Got the date wrong, my bad, it's actually on the 24th.

Faux Furs'Days Poster W.I.P

Design in progress for the new Faux Furs'Days poster, and I'm continuing on with the illustrative style I've been working on. Is there anything wrong with the illustration?

Quarantine Posters

I have been commissioned to design posters that will feature in a student film called 'Transmission.' The posters are to warn the public on how to survive the spreading infection within the film. This has definitely been my favorite work produced for a client, as I love post–apocalyptic, survival, zombie themed films and games, so it was very fun designing for!

Birthday Card - Ant 2011

I forgot to post the card I made for my friend Ant, as I was busy the following few days, but here it is! For those of you who play TF2 will know the character and the quote (which has been edited) and he is Ant's favorite class in the game.

[EDIT] 100th post! :D

D'aww!

I saw some Peacock chicks/babies at the weekend when I went to Powis Castle, and they are so cute! The first photo is my favorite!

Papercut Project W.I.P.

This is a work in progress, the brief is to create something interesting by only cutting into multi-coloured paper. I thought rather than just rip and cut at random, I would design something along the theme of the 2010 UK general elections (albeit a little late) I hope to cut into the paper to add pie charts and graphs (if I have enough room that is) and see what comes of it. So far though, I am very impressed! My skill with a knife has increased massively and the result is quite effective!

Birthday Card - James 2011

For James' card I wanted to experiment more with an illustrative style that I have been working on, with the use of lines and shapes to flow the eye around the illustration. I like the style and will continue to develop it further.

Brickyard Poster - Vintage Trouble

This is the poster design I've got for the Vintage Trouble gig at The Brickyard on 7th July, what do you guys think of it? Any additions/alterations needed?

Birthday Card - Mum 2011

As my Mum loves Ballet (and used to do it) I thought she would appreciate a Ballet themed card. I illustrated the dancer from a photo, but while illustrating, I found that I really enjoyed it, so hopefully I can develop an illustrative style alongside my usual designs!

Concrete - Faux Furs'Days W.I.P

I have been asked to create a double sided menu (one side with drinks, the other an illustrations or whatever I feel fits) a logo, and a poster. Below is the menu, and 4 designs for the poster/back of the menu. Is there anything that needs improving, or even re-doing completely? I'm not an illustrator by an means so I've probably got something wrong with the hands/body, please do tell me if I have. I would like some feedback before I send it off :)

[EDIT] Forgot to mention, which works better, Red or Cream?

Birthday Card - Kate

I thought I would design a Minecraft themed card for my friend Kate. As we both play Minecraft on Chris' server with James/melonwall I thought it was appropriate.

Thatsssssss A Very Nice Shirt You Have There…

Getting my geek on, I went screen printing with Jen Bows, and we printed game based t-shirts for Aperture Science (Portal), Creeper Face (Minecraft) and Black Mesa (Half-Life) (Not shown below), along with the Help Japan posters I posted yesterday. I had a great time, and managed to fulfill my geekiness at the same time, score!
